History beckons as Sandema in the Upper East Region of Ghana is set to see the launch of the establishment of a Sports Academy soon.

The multi-purpose Project which is the brain of the Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi-based Sports Consortium, Authentic Sports and President of Bukarson Concepts, Mr. Listowell Yesu Bukarson will be named after his father, the late RSM Bukari Kanjaga Awaambe.

Mr. Bukarson, former Public and Supporters Relations Manager and Marketing Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Limited, says, the Awaambe Sports Academy is his contribution to sports development in the three Northern Regions of Ghana specifically and Ghana at large.

“Checking the annals of Ghana Sports, it’s evident that, massive sports talents over the years have emerged from these deprived Regions of the country” he said.

“Sadly, these talents go through a lot of pain and strive to pop up and mostly greater sports talents go waste because of lack of opportunity to exhibit or identify them.” He lamented.

As a sports Journalist since 1997, Mr. Bukarson says, “Sports Journalism has taken me across the world, and it’s important to state that sports is key in every socio-economic life of a people”

“In fact it’s the only event that unites a people; it has no respect for political, religious, tribal etc segregation”. He argued.

“This is why the European Parliament has desperately fallen on sports as the surest means of achieving the MDGs” he said.

Adding that, “Sports is powerful and therefore any opportunity to support a society to go into sports should be warmly embraced and supported to the very core”.

The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Hon Joseph Yaminne and the 1978 African Footballer of the Year and onetime Kumasi Asante Kotoko Head Coach, “Golden Boy” Abdul Razak, will on Wednesday, 19th February 2014, launch the Awaambe Sports Academy in Sandema.

A total of 16 teams from both the Bulsa South and North Districts participate in a two-day, justifier to select a total of 25 players.

“These core 25 players will form the nucleus of the Awaambe Sports Academy, they will then embark on a series of friendly matches across the country to select and purchase players to form the standing Academy team which will be based in the Bulsa North District capital of Sandema.” Mr. Bukarson explains.

“There is a comprehensive professional structure to set up the administrative, technical, management and player systems to mirror international sporting administrations”.

“This is to ensure that Awaambe Sports Academy meets the international recognition for Sports Academy to qualify for international partnerships and sponsorships”. He added

The Awaambe Sports Academy will concentrate on Under 12-15, Under 16-18, and Under 18-21 male and female football teams.

There will also be other sporting disciplines, such as athletics, Boxing, Volleyball, and basketball.

The Sandema mini-stadium will be the Awaambe Sports Academy Village. Its colors are the traditional Bulsa colors of Red, White and black. Its logo is the warrior symbol of the Viking to symbolize the defeat of the forefathers of the area of the Samori and Babatu, which victory is celebrated every December with the Feok Festival War dance.

The Academy has already received massive Support from leading foam manufactures in Ghana, Latex Foam Rubber Products Limited who are prepared to be a part of the enviable history of being a part of the first fully Ghanaian owned Sports Academy in the three Northern Regions of Ghana.

The Paramount Chief of the Bulsa Traditional Council, Nab Azaagsuk Azantilow II, all his sub chiefs, the Member of parliament and Deputy Interior, Minister, James Agalga, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Sym, District Chief Executive for Bulsa North, Hon. Bonaventure Adangabe, DCE for Bulsa South, Hon. Afiuc Elizabeth Jane, and a host of prominent individuals will grace this memorable event.
