FORMER FIRST Lady, , has charged traditional and religious leaders in the country to start criticizing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over the poor manner in which it has been managing the affairs of the country, adding that the voices of the chiefs and the religious leaders were not being heard much.

According to her, Ghana should be nurturing a society in which those in authority could be questioned, especially when it became clear that they were leading the country into a ditch.

Nana Konadu, who is the leader of the NDC breakaway party, National Democratic Party (NDP), therefore entreated traditional and religious leaders who command a lot of respect among the populace, to start criticizing the government when it is clear that the country is not being properly managed.

She urged other respected groups in the country like doctors, lawyers, teachers, pastors and opinion leaders, to let their presence be felt in the management of the affairs of the country.

The NDP leader particularly charged the chiefs and all professionals to start asking the government key questions about where the country is being driven to.

Nana Konadu was addressing NDP supporters in the Ashanti Region during the party’s Special Regional Conference on Saturday where interim regional executives of the party were inducted into office.

It was on that occasion that the NDP National Chairman, Dr. Nii Armah Josiah Aryeh, lambasted President John Mahama for surrounding himself with ‘greedy thieves,’ a statement that has incurred the wrath of the NDC leadership.

Nana Konadu stated that if someone is hungry, thirsty or in adverse poverty, that particular person feels it, stressing the need for the people to talk about the hardships in the country under the NDC administration.

Pointing out that the economic situation in the country was volatile, the NDP founder charged Ghanaians, notably those who command respect and authority, to start talking for a change to take place.

The former First Lady said although things were awful for the masses, the ruling government was relying on propaganda to paint an impression that all was well, saying ‘the propaganda should stop.’

She observed with concern that the environment was filled with filth and that the children in the country did not respect the elderly any longer, ‘an act which is unacceptable in the Ghanaian culture.’

She bemoaned the fact that although the situation had become worse under the current administration, when one tries to criticize the government or offer a solution to the problems, that person is scorned.

For Ghana’s infant democracy to grow and become the envy of the outside world, she suggested that different views about how the country should be managed should be respected by the government.

Nana Konadu explained that she formed the NDP with the sole aim of winning political power to help save Ghanaians from the adverse poverty and hardships confronting them.

Greedy Thieves
The General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, reacting to the accusation of ‘greedy thieves surrounding President Mahama,’ accused his predecessor, Dr. Josiah Aryeh, of stealing a car while in office.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia said yesterday that Dr. Aryeh ‘stole two cars’ belonging to the NDC when he was leaving office as General Secretary.

‘Let Josiah Aryeh come to tell us that he indeed never stole two vehicles from the NDC,’ Asiedu Nketia dared, adding that ‘they have been with him; and he has not returned them.’

Dr. Aryeh told NDP supporters in Kumasi on Saturday among other things that, ‘…I was there before and I compare certain people – I don’t wanna name names – to a gang of thieves. They go stealing, burgling in the night and because you and I are not part of the game that stole, you will never see any sign of the booty, because if you saw the booty, you would let them out so they keep the booty to themselves’.

However, Mr Asiedu Nketia said Dr, Aryeh, as a former ‘bribe taker’ from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while he was General Secretary of the NDC, lacked the credibility to accuse anybody of corruption and thievery.

Court Action
Meanwhile, Dr. Aryeh has threatened to sue Asiedu Nketia for defamation.

According to the NDP kingpin, allegations of thievery made against him by the NDC chief scribe, were a complete fabrication.

Speaking to Radio XYZ , Dr. Aryeh described the allegations as ‘sheer stupidity’ and ‘complete lies’.

‘The only response that one can give to what he is doing is to sue the man in court…you are the General Secretary of a political party in power…and if somebody has stolen something, why not report him to the Police and have him dealt with?’

Dr. Aryeh stated that he had never stolen any vehicle from the NDC, adding that the allegation by Mr. Asiedu Nketia was just to destroy him.
