Traders Rebuild Demolished Structures As KMA Boss Orders

Hundreds of Traders whose stalls were destroyed at Ashtown over the weekend have started erecting new structures on the orders of Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.

Over three hundred structures were flattened by a private developer through a court order.

But the Mayor got infuriated over the exercise which he said took place without his knowledge.

He told the traders on Sunday to resume normal activities until the assembly directs otherwise.

“We are reconstructing our stores this morning at our various allocated areas. The Mayor said he has not evicted us so we can continue to stay and work here” A trader said

“We have reported the case to police and we are waiting to see what they will do” the trader added.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has assured the traders of its unflinching support. It added that it is investigating the matter to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
