Thirty school kids of P-A Capital International School at Abesim, near Sunyani, were involved in a fatal road accident on Wednesday afternoon when they were travelling on their school bus.

None of them died. However, six victims whose conditions were very critical, were yesterday sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.

Majority of the injured have since been treated and discharged, leaving a few of them at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani where they were taken to.

Many others suffered several degrees of injuries in the gory accident which occurred on the Abesim-Tanoso section of the Sunyani-Kumasi Highway.

Similar fatal accident occurred at the same spot on Monday afternoon involving students of Agape Preparatory School, also in Abesim, where about sixty kids onboard suffered various injuries.

As at the press time yesterday, DAILY GUIDE could not confirm the total number of children on board the bus registered BA 3304C which was going to drop children at the Capital Estate, Tanoso and Terchire.

Some eyewitnesses told the paper at the scene that four children were removed dead from the wrecked school bus, but some of the school officials stated otherwise.

They however indicated that some of the children were in critical condition, while others with broken limps have been transferred to St. John of God Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for medical attention.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the school bus was heading towards Tanoso while the Sunyani-Kumasi bound sprinter bus which caused the accident was also heading towards same direction.

According reports, the sprinter bus, who was driving at a top speed and was closely following the school bus, attempted to overtake the bus.

The driver however realised that another a Metro Mass Transit bus was approaching, so he pulled back and hit the rear of the school bus forcing it to veer off the road into a steep and summersaulted several times before it finally landed in the bush.

The school bus had its roof ripped off in the process damaging everything in the bus beyond repairs. The children were saved by miracle.

The current spate of road accidents involving school buses within a matter of two days the Sunyani Municipality and its adjourning communities has created panic among parents and school kids in the municipality as most parents have threatened to stop their wards from boarding school buses again.
