FIFA has ordered the Egyptian giants Zamalek to pay $80,000 to Ghanaian side Hearts of Oak over the transfer of defender Karim Alhassan, Ghana’s leading football news outfit GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
The world governing body slapped the massive fine on Zamalek on Tuesday night following a status committee meeting over the transfer.
Zamalek signed the Ghanian player in 2011 after he ended his contract with Hearts of Oak , but he failed to establish himself and the team axed him in 2012.
Hearts reported Zamalek to FIFA after Alhassan ditched the Phobians three years ago to join the Egyptian club claiming he was a free agent amid curses on the career of the defender from the Accra-based giants.
The transfer infuriated the Accra-based club who claimed they were due some amount of money as they helped in the development of the player which sparked their action at FIFA.
FIFA agreed with Hearts’ argument that they should have been paid some amount of money and has now slapped the mammoth $80,000 bill on the Egyptian side for the transfer rights of Alhassan.
The cash comes as a boost for the crisis-ridden Hearts of Oak who are struggling with internal problems and bad results.
Alhassan failed to make an impact at Zamalek and was sacked by the club in 2012 before he moved to Turkey to play for Adana Demirspor where he suffered a similar fate.
He had a brief stint with South African side Black Leopards before opting for Serbian club Radnicki Kragujevac.
