“But it is significant to note that Dr. J.B Danquah died in prison…a committee that was set up to look at the circumstances under which he lost his life proved clearly that he did not die as a result of he being imprisoned. It was a natural death…but as young people who are into politics, we need to take into cognizance the contributions of all these people,” asserts Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Murtala Mohammed.
Benign as the above quotation may seem, it has however raised a lot of controversy in the political and media landscape as some still maintain that Dr. J.B. Danquah, regarded as the doyen of Ghana politics, did not die a natural death.
Contributing to panel discussions on ‘Kokrokoo’, Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper said “having read the hansard, I think there was no need for all of these debates. There is no doubt that J.B Danquah’s experience in prison was unfair and unjust…”
According to Kweku Baako, if one has no prison experience, “it will be easy to rationalize situations like this but if you have experienced it, you will understand why it is not fair”.
Per a medical report which was written after the death of J.B. Danquah, he (J.B) died as a result of an acute heart failure, according to Kweku Baako.
