The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital says it will cooperate fully with the police, to ascertain the weird circumstances under which bodies of three babies born dead went missing.
An orderly named only as Mumin is already in police custody assisting with investigations, whilst nurses on duty during which the bizarre incident occurred are also soon to be questioned by the police.
Mother of one of the dead babies, Suwaiba Abdul Mumin, insists she needs the body of her baby even if it is charred or mutilated.
She confirmed seeing the baby at birth and was shattered when she was told the baby had died. According to her, she has since been demanding for the body to undertake the islamic rites of burial but all to no avail.
Her family is insisting same and did not mince words in demanding for the body of their dead relative in a meeting with hospital authorities.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who was present at the meeting said the atmosphere was a little tense.
According to nurses on duty, the bodies of the three babies were packed in a box to be carried to the morgue until they were mistakenly carried away by the orderly.
The orderly reportedly told investigators that he was instructed by the nurses to clear the waste from the ward and he did just that.
He later claimed to have burnt the content of the things he parked from the ward but hospital authorities say there was no sign of burning at the site where the burning was supposed to have taken place.
When confronted with the fact that there was no evidence of the charred remains of the bodies, the orderly, according to Erastus Asare Donkor, revised his statement saying the box containing the bodies went missing after he separated it from the waste material he had picked from the ward.
He was then handed over to the police by the hospital authorities.
Public Relations Officer of the Hospital Kwame Frimpong said they will not rest until they get to the bottom of the matter.
“The hospital will cooperate fully with investigation and will not spare anything until we get to the bottom of the issue,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the mothers of the two other babies born dead want to remain anonymous.
