President John Dramani Mahama has talked up the new status Accra is assuming in inter-state relations, saying it “is fast becoming an important international and diplomatic capital.”
To back his assertion, President Mahama cited that with just after a month into the New Year, four Foreign Ministers have paid official visits to Ghana’s capital.
Speaking at a reception held for members of the diplomatic corps on Wednesday at the Peduase Lodge in Aburi, President Mahama said the visit of Foreign Ministers of Italy, China, Ethiopia and Hungary is an indication of “how busy this year is going to be for all of us.
“We are also very delighted that these developments reflect the warm glow of rising confidence in Ghana by the international community.”
President Mahama used the opportunity to welcome the new dean of the diplomatic corps, Mrs Pavelyn Tendai Musaka, Ambassador for the Republic of Zimbabwe.
She took over from former Ambassador of the Republic of Burkina Faso, Sini Pierre Sanou, whom the president described as a good friend.
President Mahama hinted that resident missions from Mexico, Serbia, Kuwait and New Zealand are expected to be opened this year.
