PNC could not even raise GH¢1 for my campaign – Hassan Ayariga

The 2012 presidential candidate of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Hassan Ayariga says he is saddened by claims that he squandered GH¢1.6 million meant for the party’s electioneering campaign.

According to him, he was just the “face of the PNC” in 2012 but did not receive any money on behave of the party to fund his campaign.

“I was just the face of the PNC and I don’t receive monies for them. I’m not the PNC accountant so I’m so sad that someone is talking like this when PNC could not even raise GH¢1 for my campaign,” he bemoaned.

Mr. Ayariga was reacting to an allegation by the party’s national treasurer, David Apasara accusing him [Ayariga] of pocketing money and other logistics meant for party’s campaign.

Mr. Apasara wants the former flagbearer to be hauled before the PNC’s Central Committee to account for the cash.

But in a riposte, Mr. Ayariga said the unsubstantiated accusation by the national treasurer is misdirected.

He stated that “I have never taken any money from the party for campaign, neither has the party given me any car for campaign”.

Hassan Ayariga said he deserves commendation for making the party vibrant in the 2012 elections.

“I run my campaign independently; I put up 1,500 billboards and so many posters and T-shirts across the nation so I don’t believe the party thinks I have money for them”.
