Speeding Car Kills Two In Obuasi

The people of   Adansi   witnessed one of   the   most bizarre road accidents at the weekend, when a speeding  saloon car, which was being driven by a 29-year old teacher, Osei Owusu Benjamin, run over three children, killing two on the spot and injuring one near Domeabra, on the Obuasi-Adansi Asokwa road.

The saloon car, which belongs to the suspect’s friend, has been handed over to the police.

The victims, who are residents of Domeabra, a farming community within the Obuasi Municipality were said to be returning home from Kwabenakwakrom, a nearby village after visiting a barbering shop when they met their untimely death.

The bodies of the deceased Paulina Joe, 15, and Hannah Tetteh, 2, have since been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital Mortuary, while the injured, Jeremiah Tettey Korley, 5, has been discharged after receiving an initial treatment at the Obuasi SDA hospital.

What is even worrying is the fact that, the deceased and the injured belong to one family and the father told The chronicle that he received that horrifying incident at around 1 pm, adding ‘I did not believe the story until I saw the dead bodies at the hospital’.

He, therefore, appealed to the police to initiate an in-depth investigation to establish the real cause of the accident.

The Obuasi Divisional MTTU commander, ASP Douglas Kuma, who confirmed the story, said the suspect, Osei Owusu Benjamin, was currently in the grips of the Obuasi police assisting investigations.

ASP Kuma hinted that the 29 year-old Mathematics and Science teacher of Hweremoase Junior High School would be arraigned before court.
