PNC treasurer backs call for inquiry into GHC1.6m allegations

The People’s National Convention (PNC) treasurer, David Apasera has backed calls by a youth group “Convention Forum” for an independent investigation into the party’s election 2012 finances.

The group claim the party leadership has failed to account for the money, a year after the elections.

Spokesperson for the grouop, Adam Akani alleged that one million, six hundred thousand Ghana cedis (GHC1.6 million) allocated to the PNC party agents for the 2012 elections, have not been paid, as he called for an independent inquiry into the issue.

In support, the PNC treasurer on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, said he did not receive the alleged amount of (1.6 million Ghana cedis) and further conceding that nothing has been paid party agents.

According to him, an undisclosed amount was given to the PNC 2012 flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga but did not hand it over to the party.

“I am aware some money was given to the flagbearer to pay party agents but most of them have been asking for their money so I proposed to the party’s Standing Committee to investigate the issue but the committee I set up has not been able to meet”, the PNC National treasurer indicated.

Additionally, David Apasera noted that the call by the group is legitimate to enable the party get to the bottom of the issue.
