Last Sunday night was a very thrilling one to patrons who converged at the National Theatre in Accra to watch the grand finale of the “Celebrations” reality singing show.
The crowd was massive, making the auditorium full to the brim. Many people came in as groups to support their favourite singing bands which were battling for the ultimate prize that evening.
In all, there were six singing groups which made it to the finals. These groups were: Akoo; ARS; Sackom; TY Crew; Zionic, and Rhythms.
The task for determining the winner of the 8-week show was for the various groups to treat the gathering and the judges to songs of praise, on a first and second round score.
All the groups did their best to impress the judges for more marks and good compliment for both the first and second rounds.
The judges finally pronounced the winner. And it went to the talented “Akoo” group, all the way from Winneba.
Akoo is a Ga word literally meaning a parrot. The victory of the group really gave their name, “Parrot”, a true meaning. They were inarguably the best of all the groups which participated in the show, and the fans testified to it as they yelled and chanted their names.
For the prize, Akoo was awarded GHC10,000,00, 2 guitars, and souvenirs from sponsors.
The second place was taken by the ARS group, from Ashaiman. And they received GHC8,000.00 plus souvenirs from the sponsors.
SACKOM, another talented singing group, from Sakumono in Tema, grabbed the third position and received an amount of GHC6,000.00 and sponsors’ souvenirs.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth positions went to TY Crew from Odorkor, Zionic group from Spintex, and Rythms from Jamestown, respectively, with TY Crew taking away GHC 4,000.00.
All the participating groups, including the evicted ones, were presented with certificates of participation by TV3, organizers of the “Celebrations” singing reality show.
Winners of the night, Akoo, expressed their profound gratitude to God Almighty for seeing them through the 8-week competition. They also thanked their fans and supporters who voted for them.
