The Central Regional Vice Chairman of the United Cadres’ Front of National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Erasmus Arko says many women who are undertaking the School Feeding Programme have abandoned their husbands and children due to their huge debts.
He disclosed this while speaking at a national annual review meeting of the United Cadres’ Front of National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Bunso in the Eastern Region on Saturday.
He said many people engaged in school feeding programme, mostly women, were leaving their husbands and children because of their massive debts in the region.
He pleaded with government to expedite action on the disbursement of the capitation grant to enable school feeding contractors to pay their debtors.
He said members of the Cadres Front in his region lack motivation and adequate remuneration.
He said his outfit had acquired about 200 acres of land in the region to execute an agriculture project and pleaded with the party’s national leadership to support it.
The Deputy Minister for Labour and Employment, Boasiako Sekyere, urged the over 100 participants to work hard to ensure that the NDC retains power.
He spoke on the team, “Positioning the Cadre Corps as an Effective and Relevant Integral Structure of the National Democratic Congress for Victory 2016 and Beyond.”
He stressed that the Mahama administration had faced a lot of challenges, including the election petition, power outage, industrial strikes, among others, stressing that the government was committed to enhancing the lives of the people.
The deputy minister, who represented the President at the function, appealed to the cadres to prepare themselves for the task ahead.
He called for the recruitment of young and energetic people by the group and stated that the NDC administration had prioritized activities to improve the lives of Ghanaians. Members of the United Cadres Front of NDC used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals of the NDC.
