He is known for calling the rains to fall on him and on God’s people in his songs. Perhaps God did answer his prayers literally when he least expected it.
Minister Sonnie Badu experienced yet another heavy down pour at his Kumasi worships with Sonnie concert last Friday. The rains poured around about 9pm, exactly the same time, his Accra concert also experienced rains. With what is almost becoming a trademark before his concerts, Minister Sonnie Badu defied the odds and walked through the rains to chat with his fans, apologized to them and pleaded of them to pray and wait patiently for the rains to stop.
“I don’t know why it decides to rain before my concerts. Perhaps I should stop singing about rains. What I do know is that it happened in Accra and we prayed and waited and God showed mercy. I promise you, if there remains only one person, I will perform and give you a great show. “Let’s physic our mind for an all-night,” he promised.
After almost two hours of rains, accompanied by prayers from powerful men of God and the supporting artistes and singers for the concert as well as die-hard fans who wanted the show to go; on the heavens listened and soon the rains cleared.
The production team started work on the stage; clearing the water and drying the equipment as Rev Yawson, supported by Abeiku Santana and other artistes led the crowd in prayers and worship. At around 12 midnight, all was set for the show to kick off but just as the band could warm up, the skies opened for some drizzles again but patrons stayed put hoping that it would only remain just drizzles.
The show finally started and what a show it was! Just like the hosts of the concert, Abeiku Santana and Fiifi Folson said, those who waited patiently had a truly worthwhile experience. The first half of performances was a back-to-back medley of praise and worship from some of the current gospel hit makers and veteran hit makers. They included Francis Amo, Enoch Arhin, OJ, SP Kofi Sarpong, Cwesi Oteng, Kojo Oteng, Victoria Sarfo, Dorcas Appiah, Tagoe Sisters, YABS and Rev Yawson.
The second half of performances was from the show headliners, Ron Kenoly and Sonnie Badu himself. Ron Kenoly performed several of his hit songs including Ancient of Days, Sing Out, You Are, and Lift Him Up to the delight of the crowd. Sonnie Badu opened his slot with energetic singing and dancing and closed the concert with some heartwarming worship songs. He performed for three hours including songs like ‘Yaweh’, ‘Baba’, ‘Arabaribi’, ‘Wonder God’ and ‘Ese Oluwa’ .
After performing for three hours, Minister Sonnie ended the show at 5pm with a prayer, a blessing and prophecy for the crowd, who were still eager for more songs. Indeed Kumasi worships with Sonnie Badu turned into an all-night that Kumasi will never forget.
