Italy and Ghana to conduct Naval exercise

The Italian Navy Task Group is scheduled to conduct a joint maritime training exercise with the Ghana Navy from March 5-10, 2014.

The Navy Task Force group from Italy comprises of four ships, namely Its Cavour (Aircraft Carrier), Bergamini (Frigate), Its Etna (Supply Ship) and Its Borsini (Offshore Patrol Vessel).

A statement signed by M.A Larbi, a Lieutenant Commander from the Public Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said, the joint exercise was disclosed by the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Laura Carpini, when she paid a courtesy call on Vice Admiral Mathew Quarshie, the Chief of Defence Staff at Burma Camp.

The statement said the Task Force Group would also conduct a medical outreach programme for children and also interact with the business community in the defence Sector.

Vice Admiral Quarshie acknowledged that the Ghana Navy stands to benefit immensely from the exposure and the familiarisation that emanates from training with other Navies.

He commended the Italian government for the support and assured that the GAF would do everything possible to ensure the success of the exercise.
