{"id":742,"date":"2013-01-10T17:53:09","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T17:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2013\/01\/bring-caretakers-mps\/"},"modified":"2013-01-10T17:53:09","modified_gmt":"2013-01-10T17:53:09","slug":"bring-caretakers-mps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2013\/01\/10\/bring-caretakers-mps\/","title":{"rendered":"Bring Caretakers \u2013 MPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parliament has requested for the full list of all Ministers of State who have been asked by President John Dramani Mahama to be at post until new ministers are appointed.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho directed Majority Leader, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor to furnish the House with the names of such caretaker ministers.<\/p>\n<p>This, according to Adjaho, would inform the House as to which ministers to deal with in the conduct of parliamentary business and in the discharge of its oversight responsibility over the Executive.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker Adjaho\u2019s directive followed legal issues raised by Akuapim North Member of Parliament (MP), William Ofori Boafo concerning President Mahama\u2019s directive on the caretaker ministers.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the president\u2019s directive on the caretaker ministers was not in conformity with some provisions of the Transition Act, which stipulates how power should be transferred from one government to another.<\/p>\n<p>He contended that per the provisions of the Act, the president should have issued an official statement appointing the ministers to caretaker positions, a copy of which should be presented to Parliament and not just a mere directive from the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>The MP quoted yesterday\u2019s edition of DAILY GUIDE to buttress his point on the floor of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>However, some NDC MPs, who read the paper gleefully and religiously like \u2018Bible and Qur\u2019an,\u2019 quibbled in the House\u2019s chamber, suggesting the publication was not credible.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Speaker Adjaho, in his remarks admitted the Akuapim North, MP W.O.
