{"id":44491,"date":"2013-03-14T08:25:40","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T08:25:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2013\/03\/investigate-volta-regional-hospital-opinion-leaders\/"},"modified":"2013-03-14T08:25:40","modified_gmt":"2013-03-14T08:25:40","slug":"investigate-volta-regional-hospital-opinion-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2013\/03\/14\/investigate-volta-regional-hospital-opinion-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigate Volta Regional Hospital \u2013 Opinion leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Thursday, 14 March 2013<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source:<\/strong> Daily Graphic<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.ghanamma.com\/uploads\/2013\/03\/724a12085106.jpg\" alt=\"George Acquaye Ho\" title=\"George Acquaye Ho\" width=\"250\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"c3\">Four opinion leaders in Ho have called for full-scale investigations into the alleged GHS200,000 fraud case involving some officials of the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho.<\/p>\n<p>The leaders also called for the immediate interdiction of the four officials to pave the way for them to be thoroughly investigated.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, it would be inappropriate for people being questioned by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to continue to be at post when investigations had not been concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Togbe Howusu XII, the Warlord of the Asogli State, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs and people of Ho, said it would be wrong for persons under investigation to be at post when the issues being investigated had to do with their various positions.<\/p>\n<p>The need for them to step aside, he explained, was to avoid the situation where they could tamper with evidence, since the matter was still being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they are found culpable,\u201d he said, \u201cthey must be made to face the full rigours of the laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Four officials of the Volta Regional Hospital \u2014 the medical superintendent, Dr George Acquaye; the administrator, Madam Rejoice Blebu; the accountant, Mr Joseph Annan, and the storekeeper, Mr Richard Katapu \u2014 are being questioned by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for allegedly siphoning GHS200,000 belonging to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview, Togbe Howusu warned that if the officials were not asked to step aside for investigations to continue, the common people might be compelled to chase them out.<\/p>\n<p>According to Togbe Howusu, he and some Chinese investors recently visited the hospital to learn at first-hand some of its challenges, with the view to finding external assistance for the health facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey painted a bleak picture of the lack of logistics and their inability to maintain the mortuary, but if now they have such an amount which they can allegedly embezzle or plan to embezzle, then the problem with that hospital starts from the head,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mama Atrato III, the Queenmother of Ho-Dome, who is the spokeswoman for the queenmothers and women\u2019s groups in Ho and beyond, said whoever gave the information out on that deal was a real patriot and needed to be commended for others to emulate.<\/p>\n<p>Mama Atrato, known in private life as Madam Josephine Dzah, a security expert with over 40 years\u2019 experience in investigations, said it was only proper for those \u2018fingered\u2019 to step aside, while investigations were underway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir absence will be needed to conduct a full-scale investigation into the activities of the hospital because we know that in recent years the hospital has been bedevilled by a number of problems. A full-scale investigation will bring out the challenges facing the hospital for solutions to be found to help our women and children who visit that facility on referral or as a first port of call,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ho Presbytery Chairman of the Global Evangelical Church, Reverend Emmanuel W.
