Senate President, David Mark yesterday,\u00a0 urged Nigerians to savor the victory of the Super Eagles in South Africa and use it as a rallying point to further the peace and unity of the country currently challenged by\u00a0 insecurity.<\/p>\n

Senator Mark who led the Federal Government delegation to watch the final of the 2013 African cup of Nations in South Africa, was pleased that the victory of the super Eagles has offered the needed elixir and tonic to boost the peace and unity of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

In a congratulatory message through his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh last night, Senator Mark praised the Stephen Keshi tutored boys for the successes at continental championship, saying the nation owed them a great measure of gratitude.<\/p>\n

\u201dYou deserve our honour and praise. The Federal government and indeed all Nigerians are indebted to\u00a0 you. You have restored our dignity and pride. You deserve our honour and reward\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

The Senate President praised the Super Eagles for the team spirit displayed throughout the competition and implored all Nigerians\u00a0 to emulate the team spirit that brought the victory.<\/p>\n

He particularly praised the Head coach of the Super Eagles,Stephen Keshi\u00a0 and his coaching crew for what he described as \u201ca job well done\u201d, pointing out\u00a0 that \u201cKeshi\u00a0 is a child of history and destiny\u201d.<\/p>\n

He Said: \u201c As a player and captain of the Super Eagles in 1994, Nigeria won the nations cup. As a coach of the Super Eagles in 2013, he brought honour to our dear country. Keshi has proved to be a great asset to the nation. The nation is proud of you\u201d.<\/p>\n

Nwobodo lauds\u00a0Eagles<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Former Sports Minister, Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which ended in South Africa on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the finals watched by FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, South Africa President, Jacob Zuma and Nigeria\u2019s Senate President, Dr. David Mark.<\/p>\n

Nwobodo who served as Sports Minister when Nigeria won the Olympic football gold medal in Atlanta, 1996 praised the Super Eagles for making Nigeria proud and urged the President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to reward the players with National Honours and gifts.<\/p>\n

Nwobodo who as Chairman of Enugu Rangers led them to win the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1977 stated, \u201cI wish to congratulate our victorious Super Eagles for making Nigeria proud by winning the 2013 AFCON Cup.<\/p>\n

It is a victory that is coming at a critical period of national reawakening and there can be nothing sweeter than this victory\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also commended the Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi for his strategy in grooming a team of committed young Nigerians to conquer the rest of Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeshi has shown that Nigeria is a complete country and with self-belief, it is possible for our country to achieve our dreams. Keshi and his team have given the nation the needed tonic to stand up and act as one in all aspect of our national life\u201d, Nwobodo noted.<\/p>\n

The former AnambraState governor lauded Nigerians for supporting the team and particularly commended President Goodluck Jonathan for showing personal interest in seeing the team to a resounding victory.<\/p>\n

He ended by calling for national honours and befitting reward for the team. In his words, \u201cI call on MR. President to reward them adequately and continue to give them the moral and material support they need to excel in future engagements\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
