The National Labour Commission (NLC) has described the strike embarked upon by Doctors in the country as \u2018illegal\u2019 and have expressed shock by the decision of Doctors after what the Commission described as positive progress in negotiations to resolve their grievances.<\/p>\n

The members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) began a nationwide strike although it is attending to emergency cases.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News the Executive Secretary of NLC, Breku Boadu, stated that \u201cIf we want to strictly apply the law then that strike is illegal. The law states that you notify your employer and also the National Labour Commission, sending an ultimatum I don\u2019t think that is what the law says.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, he was taken aback when he heard of the doctors\u2019 actions to embark on a strike.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I heard that the President of the Ghana Medical Association stating that the issues have still not been dealt with and therefore they are embarking on a strike action I was taken aback.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Breku explained that there was an earlier arbitration \u201cso the Commission indicated that the decisions that were made during the earlier compulsory arbitration should be implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n
