Ghana U17 team crashed out after just the first round
By Ameenu Shardow
Sammy Kuffour says it was a huge disgrace for Ghana’s U17 team to lose 6-1 to Nigeria at the African Junior Championships.
The Black Starlets crashed out of the competition being staged in Morocco without winning even a single.
It is perhaps the worst performance displayed by the national U17 team at a major African tournament.
And Kuffour who started his illustrious career as a flying Black Starlet expressed his hurt watching Paa Kwesi Fabin’s team get slaughtered in Morocco especially against Nigeria.
“For me it was a big disgrace to see Ghana lose 6-1 to Nigeria,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“It is something they will talk about for a long time to come.
“All my friends in Nigeria were calling me to brag they have beaten Ghana 6-1, it was a disaster.”
The Ghana FA however in contrast to Kuffour’s comments say the team achieved its objectives at the tournament.
According to Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi, the emphasis was to present a team of the right ages to aid the developmental project of the federation.
Critics however believe it is possible to develop young players while excelling in junior competitions.
