ABUJA — The Nigerian Christian Service Commission has threatened to disqualify air carriers and ground handlers who fail to adhere to provisions of the Procurement Act in pilgrims’ airlift.
Executive Secretary of the commission, John Kennedy Opara, issued the threat during the Bidders Education Programme at the Embassy of Nigeria in Tel Aviv, Israel, weekend.
Opara warned in a statement issued by the commission: “Any service provider who refuses to comply with the provision of the procurement Act will automatically be disqualified irrespective of how long such service provider has been in business with NCPC.
“The Executive Secretary maintained that the era of anything goes has passed, and that it is no more business as usual.
“ Earlier in his address, the Nigerian Ambassador to the State of Israel, His Excellency Mr. David O. Obasa commended the Executive Secretary for taking the Bidders Education to the State of Israel.
and thereby giving equal opportunity and providing level playing ground for all the service providers.
“He then called on them to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Commission so that they can remain in business with the Commission.”
In his presentation at the one-day Bidders Education Workshop, head of the Procurement Unit of the Commission, Mr. Emeka Nwafor, said the main essence of the workshop was to sensitize service providers on the need to understand and appreciate the procurement provision Act as it affected Christian pilgrimage in Nigeria.
Nwafor said the workshop was predicated on the backdrop of the commission’s experience during the last procurement circle.
He said the commission recorded very poor performance by bidders, particularly from ground handlers in the area of documentation, adding that air carriers did not fare better as their submissions too were also not very impressive.
