The dean of Faculty of Arts of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Dora F. Edu – Buandoh has opined that the quality of education we all hope in this country should b “the kind of education where the curriculum is geared towards the development and benefit of society and not just a certificate for the learner”.
Dr. Edu – Buandoh who was speaking as the guest speaker at the 20th Anniversary celebration and Speech And Prize Giving Day Of The Akroso Senior High School (AKROSEC) on the theme “quality education as a tool for national development, the role of Akroso Senior High School” said quality education in the country should not just “equip learners with knowledge but inculcate into learners values that enhance the realities of life such as peace, development, nature and the growth of human race”. She then urged the country to move from the book – oriented type of education to technology based education. She entreated the country to take the study of the information and communication technology (ICT) seriously since that is the education with the currency presently.
Dr. Edu – Buandoh, congratulated the school for the successes chalked within its short spate of existence and encouraged the headmistress of the school, old students, staff and the board to do their widows-mite to position AKROSEC on an appreciable position in the country.
On her part, Ms. Adriana Kandilige the Eastern Regional Director Of Education urged all stakeholders of education to come on board in the educational development of the country since holistic education cannot be shouldered by the government alone.
Mrs. Ablata M. Ansah, headmistress of the school thanked the government, PTA and cooperate bodies that have been helping the school. She also outlined some challenges facing the school which include infrastructure, vehicles, water etc and pleaded with all stakeholders of education and other philanthropist to come to their aid.
Mr. Alex Incoom, president of the old students association (AKOSA) urge the headmistress and staff of the school to increase their zeal and commitment in assisting students to obtain the best of grades and morals that will make them academically sound and socially responsible citizens. He then pledged the unflinching support of AKOSA to the school and called on all old students both home and abroad to come to the aid of their alma-matter.
