Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah has been confirmed as Head of Bank of Ghana (BoG) by President John Mahama, CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE has learnt.

Dr. Wampah was made the Acting Governor following the nomination of Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, then Governor of Bank of Ghana by President John Mahama to become Vice President.
Dr Wampah was chosen as first deputy governor of the Central Bank of Ghana in April 2009.
Before his appointment at the bank, Dr. Wampah was the Director of the Research and Statistics Department at the West African Monetary Institute. He was responsible for overall supervision and coordination of the work programme of the Research and Statistics Department and supervised the planning and implementation of the Macro-economic Convergence Monitoring Programme of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ).
During his seven year-tenure as Director of Research, he was extensively involved in preparing the five member countries (Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria and Sierra Leone) for monetary union in the areas of macroeconomic convergence, policy harmonization-monetary policy, statistics, fiscal policy and exchange rate management among others.
He additionally worked as the Head of the Research Department of Bank of Ghana from February 1996 to February 2001 and also worked with the International Monetary Fund.
He holds a Masters Degree and a Ph.D in Economics from McGill University, Montreal Canada.
He commenced his education at Dodi Papase E.P. Primary and Ve Golokuati E.P. Primary and proceeded to Ve Golokuati L.A. Middle School.
After completion, he proceeded to Hohoe E.P. Secondary School for his GCE ‘O’ Level and the Konongo-Odumase Secondary School where he completed his GCE ‘A’ Level coursework.
He is married with six children.
With Millison Narh currently serving as the second deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, it is expected that a new first deputy governor will soon be named to consolidate the top three positions at BoG.
