The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, has advised traditional rulers to use their land as equity, instead of selling it to foreigners for mining.
That, according to him, would enable the chiefs to have a stake in the businesses established on their land and also address developmental challenges in their jurisdiction and Ghana as a whole.
From the way things are going if we do not take care we will have no land some years to come,’ he said, and asked, ‘Why should we allow foreigners to come and destroy our natural resources in the name of galamsey?’
Mr Ashigbey was speaking at the inauguration and swearing-in of the Executive Committee of the Denkyira Development Association in Accra last Thursday.
He urged the executive of the association to ensure they left behind an enviable legacy by serving the people.
He expressed concern over the formation of groups such as the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana when the country was well-endowed with all the natural resources that could transform the economy.
He called on the association to take it upon itself to inspire the youth through coaching and mentoring to help create jobs to address the problems of poverty and unemployment.
”Do not think of what you will be getting as executives. If you do that, you have already failed in advance,’ he told the executives.
The Chairman of the National Media Commission, Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere, called on the traditional rulers of Denkyira to use their offices to propagate peace in the traditional area as the country awaited the verdict of the 2012 election petition.
The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Nana Amoako, advised the district assembly to make education its priority to ensure that the area took its rightful place and contributed meaningfully to the development of the country.
