Odartey Lamptey says Kwesi Appiah needs a board of ex-players to manage player disputes

Ex-Ghana star Nii Odartey Lamptey has urging the Ghana Football Association to constitute a player resolution board that will consist of former players to deal with matters related to player management.

The GFA has struggled in handling the frequent resignation of players from the Black Stars in recent times.

Players like Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Michael Essien have all retired from the national team for various reasons.

Odartey Lamptey who played at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments for Ghana says there is the need to set up a resolution board that will pay attention to player disputes.

‘For me I think this issue has been over dragged. We have been there, we have done it and we have seen it,’ Odartey told XYZ Sports in an interview.

‘That is why I have always said that apart from Maxwell and Akwasi Appiah, the FA should form a board to handle such matters.

‘We have people like Opoku Nti, Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, and C.K Akonnor all around and we have to use them’

Five players have resigned from the team since the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and many believe that Ghana could have won the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments if Essien, Kevin Prince Boateng and the Ayew brothers had played.

‘These ex-players should be the back bone of Akwasi Appiah and issues like this can be resolved easily without stress. This is not an issue that must be dragged for long at all.

‘If Abedi Pele or Tony Yeboah should call Kevin or Sulley and talk to them one on one the players cannot object because of the respect they command’ he added.

‘This is something that must be considered by the FA because in other places like Germany, Brazil, Holland it is done and they are getting results so why can’t we do same here?’. he quizzed.

Do you agree with Odartey Lamptey’s view? Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah have got the clout to call the players to order but Kwesi Appiah and Maxwell Konadu who are all ex-players are the managers in charge of the Black Stars. Do we need more people to join to manage players? Won’t there be too many cooks in the kitchen? Make your views known in the box below:
