“Our leader Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom is not a coward. He just left the country to attend to his businesses in America” says Charles Owusu, member of the Communication team of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
This was in response to an accusation from an Independent Candidate in the December 2012 election, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY) that Papa Kwesi Nduom has travelled out of the country because of fear that there might be chaos after the judges of the Supreme Court in the election petition, gives their final verdict.
According to him (JOY), the PPP flagbearer should have waited for the final verdict to be given before going on his trip.
However, in an interview on PEACE FM, Charles Owusu quizzed why his leader’s trip and work duties should wait just because of the election petition.
“He is in America attending to his business; he has not run away, he is not a coward. Your heart is where your treasures lie. If petitioners have a case in court does it put a restriction on someone; that the person cannot travel?” he opined.
Owusu indicated that Papa Kwesi Nduom has about 15 companies in Ghana that he cannot run away from for fear of confusion after the final ruling.
“It is not because of election petition that will make him run away… We have all pledged for peace and moreover, we have been enjoying peace for some time now. We should not behave like there is no peace and because of election petition, we are now praying for peace. The most important thing is to look for jobs for the unemployed as well as deal with the butter and bread issues,” he indicated.
Charles also added that should the Supreme Court rule that the election should be conducted again, “we will contest because we were also not satisfied with the results”.
Meanwhile, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom is set to arrive in the country before the Supreme Court gives its final verdict.
