Support Acid Victim – Tema Police Appeals

The Tema Police Command has appealed to well meaning people to come to the aid of Miss Cecilia Alevi, a 25-year-old labourer, who was assaulted with acid by her boyfriend.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, Head of the Tema Regional Police Public Affairs, made the appeal on Thursday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

ASP Turkson said Miss Alevi, who is currently on admission at the Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, had her whole body deformed after John Koblah Amedorme, her 24-year-old boyfriend, poured acid on her when she informed him of a possible breakup of their relationship.

She said the two who had been in relationship for the past four years, decided to relocate to Dodowa from Ho in 2012.

ASP Turkson said while Miss Alevi, a labourer with Baron Water Company resided at their new abode, Amedorme often stayed at Ho and came to Dodowa fortnightly.

She said for the past seven months, the victim had been giving GH¢100.00 out of her GH¢200.00 salary to her boyfriend to enable him go through remedial classes as well as take care of himself.

On August 7, this year, Amedorme returned to Dodowa some days after the victim had told him that if he did not find job she would terminate the relationship.

The Tema Police PRO continued that Amedorme, who stood under a tree near the house of Miss Alevi whom he had gone to see, poured acid on her head when she approached him.

She said he poured more acid on her back when she ran into the room to wash her face.

ASP Turkson said Amedorme, who fled after that, located the mother of the victim at Sefwe Wiawso and informed her that the daughter had been admitted at the hospital.

She said the suspect called the victim on her cell phone for her mother to speak with her, but because of her predicament, she gave the phone to a nurse attending to her.

The nurse then informed the victim’s mother that Amedorme was the one who had deformed her daughter.

With this information, the mother of the victim raised the alarm and the suspect was arrested and transported to Tema.

Amedorme was on August 15, remanded into prison custody, when he appeared before the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’.

He would re-appear on September 16. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
