NDC, NPP youth groups commit to peace

Tamale, Aug 23, GNA – Youth groups in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) residing in 12 flash points in the Northern Region have said they would not do anything to disturb  the peace of the region.

Some of the groups that made the commitment are Khandaha Boys, Kapitalist, Aluta Boys, Sixty-four Bench, Forty-four Minutes, and Aljazeera, who operate in flash points or communities including Aboabo, Changli, Sakasaka, and Dagbon-Dabafong noted for political rioting.

They made the commitment at a workshop in Tamale on Thursday organized by the Northern Ghana Aid (NGA), an NGO with funding from STAR-Ghana aimed at impressing on them the need to ensure peace no matter whichever way the verdict of the Supreme Court goes.

The youth groups, after brainstorming over what they could do to maintain the peace of the region after the Supreme Court’s verdict, suggested that all should put the interest of the country above any other considerations and accept the verdict to ensure peace.

Led by Mr Adam Hudu who represented Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC and Mr Mohammed Hamza, Member of the Khandaha Boys of the NPP, the youth groups said they would not accept calls by any member of their parties or society to engage in violence.

They suggested that the losers should congratulate the winners and pledged to remain calm to send positive signals to their supporters to follow.

They also suggested that the winners should celebrate in moderation so as not to anger the losers.

Mr Mustapha Sanah, Executive Chairman of NGA, called on all to respect the decisions of independent state institutions and uphold the verdict of the Supreme Court.
