Nana Addo’s Father Died Pondering Over The Effects Of Propaganda- Prof. Mike Ocquaye

It is often defined as a biased or misleading nature of promoting or publicizing a particular political cause or point of view; and that is propaganda.

Though cruel, propaganda is a tool used by politician to tarnish the image of their colleagues without caring about the lasting effect it could have.

And this is certainly one challenge the UP tradition has suffered from their opponent according to Prof. Mike Ocquaye. As yesterday marked the 21st anniversary of the New Patriotic Party, the former legislator for Dome-Kwabenya tells a sad story of how the founding fathers of his party suffered the harsh negatives propaganda brought on them.

In an interview with OKAY FM, Prof. Mike Ocquaye disclosed that the current flagbearer of the NPP, revealed to them that his own father, Edward Akuffo Addo, died pondering over how lies told by his opponents had affected him.

“Nana Akufo Addo told us that on the very day his dad passed away, he told him that the issue of propaganda truly pierced his heart”, he said.

During the struggle for independence, Prof. Mike Ocquaye reveals there were rumuors that the leadership of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) had collected monies and conspired with the colonial government to dupe the nation.

“Danquah and his followers were accused of meeting with a gentleman by name Sidney Abraham and invited him to come to Ghana in order to take the people through sports and deceive them that gaining independence is of no essence”, he said.

Prof. Mike Ocquaye went on to explain that ex—president Kufour also had his share of propaganda which marred his persona. In a campaign led by the NDC’s Fifi Kwetey, an untrue story was told that the former president scooped all of Ghana’s gold from the reserves of Bank of Ghana.

This according to Prof. Ocquaye, won the NDC massive votes because some people believed the story.
