Man Pours Acid On Ex-Girlfriend’s Face

An unemployed young man who disfigured his 25-year-old- girlfriend by pouring acid on her and later fled from Dodowa to Sefwi Wiawso has been grabbed by the police there and handed over to Tema Regional Police.

Police accounts indicate that the suspected acid attacker, John Amedorme, 24, became desperate after his girlfriend, who had housed and fed him for four years, broke up with him and ejected him from her room.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, head of the Tema Regional Police Relations Unit, the victim, Cecilia Alvi, worked as a labourer with Baron Water Distillery.

She said the relations between the two lovers went sour and they had to part ways.

She said on July 25 this year at about 10pm, John Amedorme visited Henyum, where Cecilia resided; and on her return from town, he invited her over to have a word with her, an invitation the victim honoured.

As Cecilia got closer to him, John poured acid on Cecilia’s face “and when she returned to rush to get water to wash her face, John poured the rest of the content on her body and fled the scene.”

The victim shouted for help, which attracted neighbours, who rushed Cecilia to the Dodowa Government Hospital, from where she was later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where the victim is presently on admission and receiving treatment, ASP Turkson said.

“After report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the police at Dodowa, the police trailed John Amedorme and on August 7 the Sefwi Wiawso Police grabbed him and handed him over to the Dodowa DOVVSU,” she said.

John is expected to make a second appearance at the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ on September 5 after a first appearance in court.
