Chinese Steal Corn At Obuasi

Three Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian have been arrested at Obuasi for allegedly stealing four ears of corn from AngloGold Ashanti (AGA’s) far.

DSP Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, identified the three Chinese nationals as Peng Er, 28, Piajar, 43, and Jiang Zaian, 35, and the Ghanaian, Kwadwo Peprah, 21.

The four, who were working as excavator engineers, were arrested yesterday around 1:30pm at AGA’s farms at Anyankyerem near Obuasi.

Security personnel of the mining company during a routine patrol on the farms, spotted them with four ears of corn, DSP Acheampong explained.

According to him, the AGA security guards arrested and handed them to the police for investigation.

The police chief told Daily Guide that the suspects were returning to their workplace after attending to a faulty excavator belonging to Zoomlion, when they stopped by the farms and harvested four ears of the corn after ordering Kwadwo Peprah, their driver, to stop.

They have since admitted to the offence of conspiracy to steal and stealing during police interrogation, explaining that they craved for the cereal food, and therefore decided to go for it.

DSP Acheampong said all the four suspects would soon be processed for court to answer charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
