IEA’s Advice Is Bogus – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has condemned a suggestion by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for parties in the election dispute not to seek review after the verdict on Thursday, August 29, 2013.

In a statement issued by the IEA, not challenging the judgement by the Supreme Court will “facilitate the process of national reconciliation and unity”.

That is too blank an advice, Mr Asiedu Nketia said in an interview on TV3’s News 360 on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.

“I think they shouldn’t be talking about the right of review at this stage,” he added. He said what the IEA should rather be concerned with ensuring that political parties adhered to the code of conduct agreed upon prior to the 2012 elections.

“We political parties and IEA have failed in agreeing to the code of conduct,” he emphasised.

He laid the blame squarely at the doorstep of the monitoring group, which promised to name and shame defaulting politicians.

“Statements were made and it took the Supreme Court to sanction people,” he wondered.
