The 25-year-old is a free agent after leaving Belgian club Lierse at the end of last season.
Hearts coach David Duncan is said to have given officials the green light to pursue the Ghana international as he looks to secure a big-name signing before the commencement of the league.
The son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele was training with newly promoted club Inter Allies but was just to keep fit.
The former XI Wise player is also according to GHANAsoccernet.com investigations interested in returning to the Ghanaian top flight – a move that will excite many fans.
Ayew’s signing will clearly give Hearts a massive boost since they have been unable to capture most of their big-name targets during this transfer period.
Hearts are preparing themselves to reclaim the Premier League title they last won in 2009 by dethroning rivals Asante Kotoko as champions in the coming season.
The Phobians open their Premier League campaign on September 15 at New Edubiase before hosting Kotoko in just their second game of the season.
