Health Workers Begin Strike Today

Four health workers unions in federal government health institutions may begin a strike today to protest the health ministry’s failure to implement some agreements.

The health workers under Joint Health Sector Unions, an umbrella body for nurses, midwives, pharmacists, technicians and other cadre, will begin the indefinitely at all tertiary health institutions, union officials told Daily Trust.

Workers in health institutions at the state and local government levels are expected to join in the industrial action one week after if government fails to consider their demands by August 28, said Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) chairman Dr Ayuba Wabba.

The union said the health minister failed to attend an August 19 meeting called by the labour minister and also did not send a representative.
