Egypt: Mubarak to Be Released Pending Probe Into Presidential Palace Case

Cairo Criminal Court ordered on Monday 19/8/2013 to release former president Hosni Mubarak pending investigations over financial corruption related to the renovation of presidential palaces.

Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, who will not be released in the case, along with the former president, are charged with squandering LE 126 million in public funds, and illicitly re-directing state funds allocated for the renovation of presidential palaces towards private residences.

The court also decided to refer this case to the Public Prosecution to resume investigations and in order to add four new defendants in the case.
