Ex Ghana striker Felix Aboagye is willing Rabiu Mohammed to excel in Russia in order to secure a return to mainland Europe.

The 23-year-old is set to complete a three-year move to Kuban Krasnodar from French club Evian TG.

The tireless midfielder will sign for the Russian club after passing a medical this week.

Many however believe the Ghana midfielder has taken the wrong decision to leave the intense competition in mainland Europe for the ‘sub-standard’ but rich Russiam top flight.

Felix Aboagye who is assistant coach of Rabiu’s former Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals however hopes the former Udinese man makes a quick return to mainland Europe on the back of an excellent display in Russia.

‘We would have thought he will remain in (main) Europe and eventually become like the Essiens and the Muntaris and the like,’ he told Radio Gold.

‘But we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe this move will benefit him financially.

‘I don’t want to say he has taken a backward decision or anything like that.

‘We always want to see our players playing at the highest level, in the Champions League and Europa League.

‘But he is still there and can get the chance to comeback to (main) Europe because the national team will also be needing him for the upcoming World Cup.’

Rabiu leaves Evian after spending three years with the French club – during which period he played 63 games and scored two goals in Ligue 1.
