Rashid Sumaila can now play matches for Sundowns

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila is set to make his official debut for South African side Mamelodi Sundowns after receiving his ITC to enable him play for the PSL side, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old joined the PSL club at the end of Ghana Premier League last season and joined the South Africans for pre-season.

But he has been unable to play an official match for the club because of the paperwork for his transfer had not been completed.

His International Transfer Certificate (ITC) was secured by Sundowns on Monday which paves the way for him to play official matches for the club.

‘I can confirm that Sundowns have received all the documents and work permit to enable me start playing officials matches,’ Sumaila told Ghana’s leading football news website www.ghanasoccernet.com

‘I am determined to succeed here in South Africa and getting the papers sorted is the first step. Now I need to start in matches to prove my worth.’

Sumaila signed a five-year deal with the Brazilians from Ghanaian side Dwarfs.

He is the third Ghanaian within a space of a year to join Sundowns.

Emmanuel Baffour and Mumuni Abubakar failed to establish themselves since arriving from New Edubiase.

But Ebusua Dwarfs centre-back, who was part of the Black Stars says he wants to earn his starting place in the team.

Sumaila has represented his country at U20, U23 and senior level, despite his young age, and is thought to be one of the brightest young prospects in Ghanaian football.

He made his Black Stars debut the 3-1 win over Sudan in the 2014 World Cup qualifier on June 7 in Omdurman.
