The leadership of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has announced plans of withdrawing their services if government does not pay allowances owed them on or before Monday, 26th day of August.
JUSAG on April 12 suspended an industrial action over allowances after a series of consultations with Management and a subsequent meeting with the Judicial Council.
According to the Association since the suspension of the strike action, all efforts to get the payment of all other outstanding allowances have proved futile.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), JUSAG, Francis Brakwah said ‘’this is the right time for them to demand their money.’’
‘’Notice is hereby, given that if these allowances which are all known to government and management are not paid to us unconditionally or before Monday, the 26th day of August, 2013, all members of staff of the Judicial Service shall withdraw their services effective Tuesday, 27th day of August, 2013.’’
Mr. Brakwah said tensions are high among members and ‘’it has become absolutely impossible for us to be able to rein on our members to exercise restraint.’’
He went on to say JUSAG have been patriotic enough and cannot continue to be patient with government. ‘’Let us be given what is due us; we don’t want to hear the message that the government says it has no money. We don’t want to hear that message at all, wherever there is money the government should go and bring it and give to us.’’
The statement said some of the allowances have been outstanding since 2012.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the election petition on August 29, 2013, it is unclear what will happen to the ruling should government fail to meet the demands of JUSAG.
