Ghana midfielder Haminu Dramani was sent off on his Portuguese Primeira Liga debut for Gil Vicente who beat 2-0 Académica on Sunday in their season opener.
Gil Vicente head coach Joao de Deus handed the former Black Stars player a starting role after impressing in the off-season.
The winger received two yellows from referee Pedro Proença-with the first as early as the 22nd minute and the second booking recorded on 47 minutes.
Dramani signed a two year contract with early this month on a free transfer after leaving French Ligue 2 side Arles Avignon.
He scored a brace on his debut for the club in a pre-season friendly.
