Meseret Defar won gold medal for Ethiopia in Saturday’s 5000m final in Moscow.
Meseret covered the final 3000 meters in 8:35 and earned gold in 14:50.19.
Mercy Cherono of Kenya was next in 14:51.22 and Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia took bronze in 14:51.33.
Kenya’s Viola Kibiwot was fourth in 15:01.67 and Buze Diriba of Ethiopia, who played a key role for Meseret’s triumph, was fifth in 15:05.38.
Ethiopia is now place at 4th place on the medal table with three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
