A military spokesman dismissed a rumor fanned by Islamists on social media that a military armored vehicle defected on a main street in Mohadeseen in Giza.
The vehicle left the street to join troops around Azbakiya police station where gunmen were trying to storm it, said military spokesman Ahmed Mohamed Ali.
He noted that such rumors were repeatedly circulated during the recent period.
