CIRCLE GPRTU ON FIRE

This reporter can authoritatively say that tension is brewing at the Circle Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Number 4, as the over 120 members including their executives have described as false, reports in the media that the union office was attacked and some GH¢23, 000.00 was stolen.

Information gathered by this reporter has it that there was no attack on the Union Office and that any information indicating such, must be disregarded.

However, speaking to some members including executives of the Union during our checks, it was established that on the said day of the purported attack, July 13, 2013, the Union’s office was opened for business, but no incidence of attack was recorded.

This reporter also gathered that such a clam was churned out into the public domain by the Chairman of the Union Mr. Paul Kwabena Badu Aidoo to cover up his alleged ‘nefarious’ activities leading to the dissipation of the Union’s account.

It could be recalled that some sections of the media carried a story to the effect that the GPRTU Number 4 Branch Union at Circle, Accra was attacked, monies stolen and some hoodlums were arrested.

The stories further indicated that the Chairman wrote to the IGP, CID of the Ghana Police Service, the Attorney General to look into the matter and prosecute the offenders.

However, thorough checks and follow ups to that story has revealed that the Chairman who handpicked union members as perpetrators of the said crime, did so because the members were against the way and manner he runs the affairs of the Union.

‘Look anybody who stands up to speak against his leadership style becomes a victim to his wicked actions,’ a member said.

It also came up that the Chairman of the Union Mr. Paul Kwabena Badu Aidoo is using the Union’s funds to enrich himself and his family to the neglect of the members who are regular contributor to the Union’s fund.

‘This man made us do things against our wish and when he realised we are ready to voice and expose him, he orchestrated that frivolous claims against some of our members. We can tell you on authority that nobody attacked our Union office, and if any money is missing, he should be responsible,’ another executive indicated.

The Media is having dossier of information on how Mr. Paul Kwabena Badu Aidoo is mismanaging the Union’s account, how he allowed his seven children to be drawing huge sums of money from the Union’s account every week.
