The 2012 Flagbearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should have opted for former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo as Lead Counsel in the election petition case rather than Mr. Philip Addison, according to Deputy General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Kwame Jantuah told Radio XYZ’s news analysis programme ‘The Analyst’ on Saturday that: ‘Ayikoi Otoo would have done a better job than Addison [did]’.

As far as Jantuah is concerned, Ayikoi Otoo, unlike Addison, is not ‘confrontational’.

The former AG’s legal prowess came to the limelight on Wednesday when he successful defended his party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, and fellow Party Communicator, Hopeson Adorye, over criminal contempt charges.

He interspersed his arguments before the Supreme Court, with humour and wit.

His clients were slapped with fines rather than custodial sentences.

Ayikoi Otoo has been the toast of his party and the public since his performance in Court on Wednesday.

Kwame Jantuah, who is also a Lawyer, said on the programme that ‘when you compare the way Ayikoi Otoo addressed the Benchto the petitioners’ Counsel Addison, for me – and this is my personal opinion – Ayikoi Otoo would have done a better job than Addison’.

He said Ayikoi Otoo ‘found the right way to get to the Judges in terms of cooling the temperature’.
