Court remands driver, couple for assault

Kwao allegedly told Dorcas in the face that ‘You’re a prostitute, you slept with Kwame Sam and Kojo Masem before you had your daughter Sandra!’

He is consequently facing charges of offensive conduct and assault before the Swedru District Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Baah Frempong.

Kwao pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the court to remand him in prison custody.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Emmanuel Agbafe, said both Kwao and Adade used to be co-tenants in a house at Bebianeha but due to some misunderstanding, they had been at loggerheads before Kwao vacated that house to stay elsewhere in the same suburb.

According to Sergeant Agbafe, at about 5 p.m on September 12, 2012 Dorcas saw Kwao passing by her house and she approached and questioned him as to why he used those abusive words on her.

The prosecutor said a confrontation ensued, which later degenerated into a quarrel during which Kwao repeated those same abusive words she used on Dorcas.

Sergeant Agbafe said not satisfied with the insults, Kwao pounced on Dorcas and assaulted her.

According to the prosecutor, some eyewitnesses went to the aid of Dorcas, rescued and sent her to the police station to lodge a complaint.

He said Kwao, on his arrest, denied ever insulting Dorcas and said what happened was a fight between them.

In a related development, Dorcas, 38, and her husband, Kwame Sam, 42, are facing a joint-assault charge for which the same court has remanded both of them in prison custody.

They were charged for heckling and assaulting Nana Kwao.

Dorcas and Sam, however, denied the charge, prompting Mr K. B. Frempong to remand them in custody.

Inspector Isaac Amon said on September 12, 2012 Kwao assaulted Dorcas, who rushed to the police station to make a report. She later abandoned the case and went underground.

The prosecutor said on June 2, 2013 the couple sent their son, Richard, aged eight, to the market to buy some items.

Inspector Amon said the boy returned home later to inform his parents that he met Kwao who sent a very insulting message through him to his parents and dared them to cause his arrest.

Angered by that message, the couple, according to the prosecutor, rushed to Kwao’s house and confronted him over the message he sent through their son.

The prosecutor said during the confrontation, Sam held Kwao’s neck and a struggle ensued in which Dorcas picked a stone and used it to hit the left eyebrow of Kwao.

Inspector Amon said onlookers intervened and rescued Kwao, who later made a report to the police.
