Sulley Muntari admits he verbally attacked the Ghana coach
Sulley Muntari has admitted that he lashed out at Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah in the dressing room over his substitution in the World Cup qualifier against Lesotho but shockingly insists he did not disrespect the coach.
AC Milan midfielder has been axed from the Black Stars for verbally attacking the trainer infront of the other players in the dressing room and refused to apologise for his action in the dressing room after June’s match in Maseru.
Apart from gestures he displayed when he was substituted in the match against Lesotho which is considered to be rude, Muntari continued with a tongue-lashing of the coach in the dressing room after the match in front of the other players.
Muntari has been told that until he apologises for his actions in the dressing room he will not be considered for future national team matches.
The AC Milan player has often been seen as something of a rebel in Ghanaian football for his outbursts on the pitch.
He has been criticised in local media over his bittersweet relationship with officials, but he claims his attitude has never been better.
However, against Lesotho in Maseru, he made headlines yet again for a glum gesture over his substitution, an incident which incurred the displeasure of the public.
“If you are substituted at a time you don’t expect, definitely you will react,” he said.
“But it is in the past and I have explained my actions to the coach. I have told him how I felt at that time. I never meant to disrespect him.”
Ghana will play Zambia in September and until he apologises he will not be considered for the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier.
In his absence there are competent replacements in Mubarak Wakaso and Christian Atsu.
