The Ghana FA have initiated a process to switch the nationality of AC Milan’s young striker Kingsley Boateng, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 19-year-old is knocking on the first team doors of the Rossoneri after impressing in the side’s pre-season tour.

Boateng’s exploits has alerted clubs and the Italian national team of his immense potential who would now want to cap him at international level.

The Ghana FA have however moved quickly to secure the international future of the youngster who originally hails from Ghana – wanting to avoid a repeat of the Mario Balotelli situation.

The leader of the Ghanaian community in Italy has been asked to speak with the 19-year-old and his guardians to secure their permission in order to begin official proceedings to have his nationality changed.

Boateng has featured for the Italian junior sides – meaning he would have to go through a similar process like Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Emmanuel Frimpong to be able to play for the Black Stars if he so wishes.

If the permission is granted, the Ghana FA will file all necessary documentations to FIFA on the player’s behalf for the world football governing body to determine whether he is eligible for a nationality switch or not.

Based on precedence and the fact that the player has not played for Italy’s senior team makes his case very straight forward.

All the Ghana FA now needs is to secure the go ahead to begin official pursuit of a nationality switch for the young but increasingly impressive Milan striker.
