Espanyol President Joan Collet has hit back at Mubarak Wakaso insisting the Ghanaian midfielder should be grateful for the meager salary they pay after the midfielder criticised the club for rejecting offers for his signature.

Wakaso launched a scathing attack directed at the management for turning down that an offer that would have seen his salary multiplied by EIGHT TIMES insisting he will leave if his contract is not massively improved.

The Ghanaian player, who is regarded as one of the most talented players in the Spanish top-flight, currently earns a paltry sum of 20,000 Euros per month in a league where many earn more than 100,000 Euros PER WEEK!, www.ghanasoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The powerful winger would have earned 1.5 million Euros annually and 300,000 Euros bonuses if the Spanish club had agreed for the midfielder to move to Russian side Rubin Kazan.

Wakaso admits he is angry about the Espanyol’s decision to deny him the chance to improve his earning after negotiations with several club seeking his signature broke down because of the huge demands from the Spanish outfit.

Since then Espanyol have offered to double his wages that would see him earn just 40,000 Euros per month which is still among the lowest earning players in Spain.

But the team’s chief has hit back at the 23-year-old claiming the Ghanaian is ungrateful even though they offer him a slave wage.

“We are offering twice his current wages,” Collet told AS.

“And we cannot offer any more.

“We cannot pay him any more than that, or accept offers that we deem unacceptable.

“I do not want a debate, and I think Wakaso should be grateful.”

Wakaso has warned that he will leave the club is his contract is not massively improved.

Wakaso’s salary at Espanyol is seen by many in the football world as a slave wage as it falls way behind the salaries typically earned by football in the top leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

With a huge extended family members who depend on him for livelihood 20,000 Euros per month salary is seen as woefully inadequate for a world-class player of his calibre.

Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo’s weekly wage is TEN TIMES more than what Wakaso earns per month.
