President John Mahama on Thursday visited Madam Theodosia Okoh, the designer of Ghana’s national flag and a former national hockey player.
The President was accompanied by the Minister for Youth & Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah and the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.
The 90-year old National Honours recipient was also joined by her son and other relations to receive the President and his team.
The visit followed a week of controversy over the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s failed attempt to rename the Theodosia Okoh Hockey pitch. Several groups and individuals protested the excercise while President Mahama also ordered a stop to it and personally apologised to the old lady for any emotional trauma she may have suffered.
