Robbers Raid Five Obuasi Houses At Gunpoint

Eight suspected robbers went on a robbery spree at Asonkore, a suburb of Obuasi, yesterday and raided five houses at gunpoint, including the Lin’s Guest House.

They made away with more than GH¢20, 000, 14 cellular phones, one laptop computer and other valuable items.

One of the victims, Mr Ebenezer Nyarko, who narrated his ordeal to the Daily Graphic, said the robbery, which lasted nearly two hours, started moments before 1 a.m.

According to him, he and members of his family were asleep when he heard a bang on his door.

He said when he opened the door to find out who might have banged the door, the robbers hit him with a gun and he fell.

Mr Nyarko said the robbers then abandoned him on the floor and asked his wife to bring all the money they had in the house.

He said the robbers took away GH¢1,200, his laptop and some documents.

According to him, “they then tied all of us and locked us in the room before leaving.”

The Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Matthew Asante, confirmed the incident.

He said the police received a distress call, following which a police patrol team was despatched to the area.

He said when the patrol team reached the scene, the suspected robbers had fled.
