Railway Station Fire Victims Appeal For Help

Some residents at slums around the Railway Station in Accra who lost their personal effects when fire gutted their kiosks on Thursday evening have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to come to their aid.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday Mr Kofi Abuga, a drinking spot operator, said the fire was detected around 2300 hours in one of the shops.

He said the fire spread quickly to others but for the timely intervention of the National Fire Service, the damage would have been massive and expressed his appreciation to the Ghana National Fire Service for their prompt intervention.

Mr Abuga said although no one got hurt, they lost all their belongings as most of them had nothing except what they were wearing before the fire started.

As at the time of the visit around 1030 hours, some of the affected persons were seen clearing up the debris to enable them build new structures.
